Synthetic, absorbable, multifilament braided suture, in a violet color or undyed. Made of a copolymer of glycolide and L-latide poly(glycolide-co-L-lactide). The tisssue reactivity in microscope form is minimal. Absorption occurs through progressive hydrolytic action; completed between 56 and 70 days. The material retains approximately 75% if its tensile strength by the end of two weeks,and 40% to 50% by the third week. Color code: Violet label. Frequently used for tissue coaptation and ophthalmic procedures.
